Affiliated Eye Surgeons was founded in 1981 by Dr. Michael Rubin and Dr. Sidney Simonian, a husband and wife team, with the goal of providing the best possible eye care to patients in Southeast Michigan. In 2015, their daughter, Dr. Lindsay Rubin, joined the practice. Today, Dr. Sidney Simonian and Dr. Lindsay Rubin offer the same outstanding, compassionate care that you’ve come to expect from Affiliated Eye Surgeons.

Dr. Sidney Simonian

Sidney Simonian, D.O., F.A.O.C.O.


Dr. Sidney Simonian is a board-certified ophthalmologist who established the practice in 1981. She specializes in refractive cataract surgery, diabetic eye exams, medical & laser treatment for glaucoma, and reconstructive & cosmetic eyelid surgeries.

Dr. Simonian graduated from medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, MI.  She completed ophthalmology residency training at Wayne State University’s Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, MI.

Dr. Simonian is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Michigan State University and a staff physician at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital.

Dr. Sidney Simonian is board-certified by both the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Ophthalmology. She served as Chair of the Board of Examiners for the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology (2001-2002) and Chair of the Department of Surgery at St. John Oakland Hospital (2002-2009). Additional leadership roles include current Chair of the Council of Medical Education for the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. She has also served as President of the American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AOCOOHNS), the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA), the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (MiSEPS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).

Dr. Lindsay Rubin

Lindsay Rubin, D.O., F.A.O.C.O.


Dr. Lindsay Rubin is a board-certified ophthalmologist trained in the medical and surgical management of eye diseases. She specializes in refractive cataract surgery, diabetic eye exams, medical & laser treatment for glaucoma, and reconstructive & cosmetic eyelid surgeries. She also offers cosmetic and medical botox treatments.

Dr. Rubin graduated from Albion College with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and neuroscience. She graduated from medical school at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, MI. Dr. Rubin completed her ophthalmolgy residency training at Michigan State University St. John Providence Health System where she served as Chief Intern and Chief Resident.

Dr. Rubin is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Michigan State University. She is a staff physician at St. John Macomb Oakland Hospital and also holds privileges at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, MI.

Dr. Lindsay Rubin is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and the American Osteopathic Association. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery (AOCOOHNS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).

Dr. Michael Rubin is officially retired!

Dr. Michael Rubin co-founded Affiliated Eye Surgeons with Dr. Simonian in 1981. He served as the Program Director for the Joseph H. Wyatt Ophthalmology Residency Training Program at St. John Oakland Hospital for 40 years.  He also served as the Clinical Director for the Patrick G. Murray Eye Center until his retirement in 2017.
