RECOMMENDED EYE EXAMINATIONS
The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends a medical eye examination for anyone who is diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension, at risk of eye disease or has a family history of eye disease.
Diabetic patients should be checked annually by Dr. Simonian to monitor for risks of diabetic retinopathy.
Patients with suspicion or diagnosis of Glaucoma should have regular eye pressure exams, corneal thickness measurement, optic nerve examinations and visual field testing at recommended intervals.
Adults under 40 with good vision and healthy eyes should have an examination once in their 20′s and twice in their 30′s. If you notice signs of infection, eye pain or unusual changes or distortions in your vision an examination is warranted earlier. Persons who have history of eye disease or wear contact lenses should be examined at regular intervals.
Adults age 40 should have a baseline eye disease screening, at the time when early signs of disease or changes in vision may start. Examination may uncover signs of eye abnormalities or systemic disease. Based on the results of the exam, Dr. Simonian will advise necessary intervals for follow up care.
Adult seniors over 60 should be examined annually for a vision examination or dilated medical exam if indicated by their physician due to suspected eye health problems such as cataracts, glaucoma or macular degeneration.
Babies and Children should be examined for any known eye abnormalities that are detected at their pediatrician or school vision screening. If there is a problem with eye alignment, or if parents notice a problem, examination is required.
